The city of Mechernich is located in the national park Eifel. The small city consists of 42 villages. The town center is in the middle of the city area and at once the shopping center with bank, mail office, schools, restaurants, physicians, drugstores, administration, the train station and the hospital.
The villages that belong to the city are most of the time agriculturally shaped with lots of charming and historic buildings. In 16 villages you find castles which partially also can be visited. Mechernich is an ideal starting point for excursions, hiking and cycling tours in every direction.
Recommendable are excursions to Cologne, Bonn and Aachen with car as well with train. The distance is less than 1 hour. The “Phantasialand Brühl” and the famous “Nürburgring” you can reach in about half an hour. Recommendable is also a visit of the “open air museum Kommern” and the “mining museum Mechernich”.
As Mechernich was part of the roman street from Cologne to Trier and the roman canal is also nearby, one can visit numerous relicts.
